Discover the different faces of Bugey and gain an insight into the drive and way of life of the locals, such as their handicrafts, agriculture and customs, the region’s most notable figures, its wildlife and landscapes, not forgetting their incredible collection of turned wood artwork.
Located in a carefully preserved Renaissance house at the foot of the Grand Colombier, the Bugey-Valromey museum offers you a tour of the Bugey from the 19th century to the present day.
The museum has a proactive policy to improve its welcome for people with disabilities. In response to each situation of disability, our mediators can propose a rhythm of visit and discovery adapted to encourage experimentation, manipulation and exchange. A free pre-visit for accompanying persons allows us to meet the expectations of the group.
VISIT THE MUSEUM
The museum has reserved parking spaces 50 m from the museum entrance, but its gravel and sloping path requires assistance. To facilitate access to the museum, two drop-offs are available on request at the reception desk or by telephone.
The museum provides a wheelchair (free of charge in exchange for an ID) and cane seats to make your visit more comfortable.
Currently, the museum is not fully accessible to wheelchair users in the historic part of the site because of the narrow doors and stairs of the Renaissance house. The room on the Bugey, the temporary exhibition room and the reserves that can be visited are fully accessible.
However, the Bugey-Valromey Museum regularly carries out actions to improve its visit: in 2018, all the stairs were equipped with wake-up and vigilance strips and stair nosing. The handrails will be extended with a rounded return if necessary.
The museum's disabled toilets are equipped with an audible and visual alarm.
Mediation tools are also proposed on the visit itinerary: films in subtitled version and in LSF.
Entrance to the museum is free for the person and his/her companion, upon presentation of the mobility inclusion card or an equivalent foreign certificate, accompanied by a photo ID. This free admission applies to both temporary exhibitions and permanent collections.
Free visit: free for groups of people with disabilities and their companions, for groups of people in integration, in social difficulty or coming within the framework of establishments, associations and social services.
Workshop or guided tour: 4 € per person (free for accompanying persons).
Decreasing rate from the 2nd activity by the same group during the season.
Please refer to the Groups page.
Guide dogs and assistance dogs are accepted in the museum's collections and exhibitions.
