Fishing in Virieu le Grand lake

A 1st category lake where angling and fly fishing enthusiasts can meet. The Lake of Virieu is managed by the AAPPMA bas-Bugey, making fishing possible for holders of a valid fishing permit.

Lake regulations: (municipal decree regulating fishing in Lake Virieu for the year 2022 - dated 06/07/2022)

> From the second weekend of March to the last Sunday of October :
From the second weekend in March to the last Sunday in October: anglers will be able to keep their catches while respecting the legal catch sizes and the following quotas:
- Pike: 70 cm / 1 per day
- Trout (fario and rainbow): 30 cm / 3 per day
- Pike perch: 50 cm / 1 per day
- Other species: no legal size or daily quotas

During this period, all angling techniques are allowed with a maximum of two rods and two hooks per line. Trout will be released while respecting the natural balance of the lake.

> From 1 July to 31 August :
Fishing is forbidden in the bathing area. Outside the bathing area, fishing is authorised from sunrise at 10am to sunset at 6.30pm and when swimming is not supervised.

> From the last Monday in October to the second Friday in March:
From the last Monday of October to the second Friday of March: fishing is only allowed under the NO KILL system. All species caught must be returned to the water as carefully as possible. During this period, only artificial fly fishing (dry, nymph, drowned, streamer) and lures (soft, hard, metallic) with a maximum of two single hooks without barbs on the line will be allowed. Stocking will be carried out while respecting the natural balance of the lake.

Dogs are not allowed in the swimming area.
Wild camping and bivouacking, day and night, are strictly forbidden.
Picnics are tolerated in the respect of the environment. Campfires and barbecues are strictly prohibited.

Open period

Fishing open from the last weekend in March to the last Sunday in October.
